Today. This is a building in Cabrini-Green aka "The Projects", one of Chicago's worst neighborhoods in terms of crime and poverty. I am not sure if this is officially the last Cabrini-Green building to get torn down, but nonetheless I felt a little uneasy carrying my expensive camera equipment here by myself. Papa Runner (that would be my dad) freaked out when he saw me in Lake Michigan (see 43/365 43/365), he will definitely not be happy with this one! I think that most Chicagoans would agree that it is a good thing to see these buildings being torn down as they are a symbol of gangs, poverty and violence. Special thanks to my friend Lisa who suggested that I shoot this. Also a special thanks to Joel, who after seeing Lisa's suggestion insisted that I shoot it today because it looked like it was about to get torn down soon.

Unfortunately the entire area was completely fenced off. I grabbed a few shots with a tripod from behind the fence. Eventually I took this one by hand with the lens poking through a small gap in the fence gate (I used a low f-stop[3.5] to reduce the exposure). That blockage on the left hand side of the photograph is that green fibery stuff they sometimes line fences with. I tried a few different crops here, including a straight vertical crop, but I ended up sticking with the original as I usually do. Maybe it's just me but whenever I attempt to crop a picture it just doesn't feel right.

Today. This is Sue at the Field Museum. She doesn't look as good without her Brian Urlacher jersey on though.

Today. Thanks to Erin for the tip on this. Erin suggested that I shoot these ice sculptures yesterday, and they turned out very cool. A good portion of my 365 comes from suggestions like this one so please keep them coming.

Today. I went for an unusual crop this time. For whatever reason I usually try to keep as much of original photo as possible, and rarely crop. This kind of gives it a widescreen HD feel or something.

Today. Wish I had an 8mm fisheye for this shot, maybe I could have got more of Excalibur. This was shot off my balcony again.

Today. I was gonna post an extra bar shot today and call it "Bar Week - The Hangover" but I realized there were decent clouds moving fast due to the high winds so I figured I would try my luck at a long exposure shot. I came up with a decent shot and started my usual HDR process. This totally ruined the sky so I started to mask the original sky back into the HDR shot. Then I realized that the original shot looked about a million times better than the HDR + original, so this is one of the few non-HDR shots you will see me post.

Today. This would be Violet Hour in Wicker Park, and the end of Bar Week in my photostream. Thanks for all of the positive comments that I have gotten on this on my flickr page! As far as neighborhoods go, I covered Rush/Division, West Loop, River North, Lakeview, and Wicker Park. I will probably be doing a restaurant week where I will take a picture a day of different Chicago restaurants soon, so stay tuned for that. One thing that I learned is that I should try to do a bit more research about the cool places and try to schedule a time to shoot, to avoid having people in the pictures (see this picture). Also, quite a few places turned me down when I asked if I could shoot them, I learned it's easier to just shoot and not ask.

Violet Hour is such a cool place that they don't need any signs indicating their location. I walked along the 1500 block of Damen for a good 10 minutes before finally asking someone in a nearby restaurant. He informed me that the bar was in an unmarked building with no signs or lights. So cool...
