Today. This shot was taken way back in December. This is the American Girl store on Michigan Ave. There are a couple reasons why I am posting this shot since it was taken so long ago. First, I think it is nice to be able to look back at my old shots and get a sense of what I did wrong, and what I could have done better. If you look back to 19/365 you can see another shot I took and processed immediately from the same day. In my opinion the newer one is way better processed, and shows at least a bit of progress in how I go about processing my images.

The second reason I went back to processing this old image is that I am considering a hardware upgrade. Although I am leaning towards the Nikon D7000 (when it comes out), I am also considering upgrading my wide angle lens to the Nikkor 14-14mm, which is what this shot was taken with. Back in December, I rented this lens to see how much I needed a wide angle lens. While it would have been silly to buy this expensive of a lens at the time, after processing today's photo, I am seriously considering it. With 260 days more experience, I can clearly see the difference in quality between this lens, and the one that I ultimately ended up purchasing, the Sigma 10-20mm which is responsible for about 90% of the photos you see on ShutterRunner.com. While the difference in quality between this and the other lens is rather small, it should also be considered that this shot was taken handheld while most of the others on this site are taken with a tripod. I would love to hear people's thoughts on the hardward upgrade. The only thing holding me back at this point is that the better equipment weighs more and may slow me down on my runs!

Today. This was taken from my cousins' building at 1503 S. State St. in Chicago's South Loop. I know I say this just about every time I find a new spot to get the skyline, but this is definitely one of the best skyline views of the city I have seen.

I have a pet peeve about my camera. I shoot with a Nikon D5000, and in aperture priority mode the longest exposure it will take is 30 seconds. Does anyone know why this is? This is particularly annoying when autobracketing, because for night shots, when I want to keep the ISO low, and the aperture high (like this shot), I end up with the anchor shot (+-0) at about 30 seconds, the underexposed (-2) shot will be fine, but the overexposed shot will also be at 30 seconds, leaving me with really just 2 frames to work with. I don't like to shoot in manual because I don't know how to calculate the exposure times, but even if I did, I would have to count all exposures longer than 30 seconds. For this shot, I actually bumped the ISO up to 200, shot at F7.1, calculated the longest exposure at 45 seconds (ended up being 46), then began manually bracketing starting with the +4 shot at 30 seconds, all the way down to -4 at 1/6.

Today. Going back to June and the Windy Pixel Workshop for today's post. I usually try to keep things fresh on project 365, but I haven't been able to go out as much as usual lately, but I am hoping that changes soon. This was taken from North Ave Beach during a beautiful sunrise.
