Today. This is a panorama of a lake just outside the town of Banff in Banff National Park. To make this shot, I bracketed 3 different sets of photos, tonemapped them in photomatix then photomerged them in photoshop. In the digital age that we live in, panoramas are not ideal because they often get reduced in size by a width limitation, rendering the image to small to appreciate the wonderful details and massive amount of pixels in the image. This is especially true on this blog where you can only see this image about 900 pixels wide. I reccomend clicking the image, then selection actions -> view all sizes on my flickr page. Choose the actual size option.

Today. Today's shot will always remind me of the end of a really long day. This particular day started at the south end of Banff National Park where fall weather was treating us very comfortably. As we headed north, the altitude increased, and the temperatures dropped. By the time we made it to the north end of Banff National Park and into Jasper National Park, winter was in full effect. This picture was the last one taken on that day, we stopped at this little creek after we arrived back to the south side of Banff. We were then rewarded with a trip to the Banff Hot Springs.

Today. Today's choice is another texture shot. We found these haystacks just before crossing the Alberta/Saskatchewan border into Alberta on our way to Banff.

Today. Today's shot is a different one for many reasons. First, this is not HDR. Second, this is my first published shot using textures - I'd be lying if I said it was my first attempt at it, but this is just the first one that actually came out decent. This is Brittany somewhere just outside of Glacier National Park in Montana. Check out the rest of the Brit series:

Today. This shot was inspired by one of my favorite photographs of all time: The Open Road by Trey Ratcliff. This shot gives you a good idea of what visiting the Canadian Rockies is like during the tourist offseason. Just you, the mountains and the open road.

Today. Who says people shots don't work in HDR? As long as your model can stay still for 9 exposures, I say people shots are perfectly fine subjects for HDR and Brit here is no exception. During our trip to Western Canada, we discovered a great trick for finding the most beautiful places wherever we were. This doesn't necessarily only apply to photogs, but if you ever want to find a beautiful place wherever you may be, just jump on flickr.com and search for the name of that city, then sort by interestingness. We did this trick for a few of the cities that we were in and it helped us discover some great sites. This here is Canmore, somewhere near 3 Sisters.

Today. This is a mountain we discovered as we were driving from Banff National Park into Jasper National Park. It was a rather windy trip, which meant it was pretty difficult to get nice mountain reflections from most bodies of water in the park. This was a rare shallow lake, so I spent a lot of time playing around with different angles, trying to get the best reflection possible. Although this shot didn't have the best reflection of all the ones I took, I think it came out the best compositionally.

Today. This is Athabasca Glacier located in a section of Jasper National Park known as the Colombia Icefield. The glacier is 3.75 miles long, and is extremely dangerous to walk on.
